Date: 08-09-2025

Dengue is a viral infection spread by the bite of an Aedes aegypti mosquito. It usually causes high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, skin rashes, and sometimes mild bleeding. In severe cases, it can lead to internal bleeding, shock, and even death, especially in children, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems.

National Dengue Day is celebrated every year on 16th May, to raise awareness about the growing threat of dengue fever, particularly during the monsoon season.

As of now, there is no antiviral treatment available for dengue in India. Because of this, ICMR and Panacea Biotec have collaborated with each other to develop India’s first anti-dengue vaccine DengiAll. The vaccine is currently in the third phase of its clinical trial, which is planned to be conducted across 19 sites in 18 States and Union Territories of India, involving more than 10,335 healthy adult participants.
