In a first of its kind event, PILLBOT was introduced in India at Hyderabad’s AIG hospital in collaboration with its innovator US-based Endiatx.
The PillBot, measuring 13 mm by 30 mm, resembling an ordinary pill, contains a miniature camera and sensors that allow it to traverse the digestive system, capturing and transmitting images and videos to detect conditions such as ulcers, bleeding, and other abnormalities. The capsule’s non-invasive nature eliminates the need for traditional endoscopic procedures and passes naturally through the body within the next 24 to 48 hours after completing its task.
Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, said “This cutting-edge technology represents a monumental leap forward in the field of gastroenterology. PillBot combines precision with patient convenience, offering a glimpse into the future of diagnostic care”.
The doctors at AIG Hospitals have also made it clear that at present, the PillBot technology is still undergoing clinical trials and has not yet received FDA approval and its use in India is currently restricted to research purposes.
